Grounding is the practice of bringing your attention back into your body and the present moment. It is a simple, accessible way to feel calmer and more centred when life feels busy or overwhelming. Here are easy grounding techniques you can use at home, at work or on the go.
1. The 5-4-3-2-1 senses check
Name five things you can see, four you can touch, three you can hear, two you can smell and one you can taste. This gently draws your attention into the present.
2. Slow belly breathing
Breathe in through your nose for a count of four, let your belly rise, then breathe out slowly for a count of six. Repeat for a minute or two. You can explore breath practices further in our Breathwork (Pranayama) sessions.
3. Feet on the earth
Stand or sit with both feet flat on the floor — or on grass or soil if you can — and notice the contact and weight of your body. Imagine roots growing down from your feet.
4. Mindful walking
Walk slowly for a few minutes, noticing each step, the movement of your body and the air around you.
5. Holding a grounding crystal
Many people like to hold a stone such as black tourmaline as a focus during grounding. Explore our Black Tourmaline Bracelet or read how to choose a crystal for your intention.
6. A short grounding meditation
Close your eyes, notice your breath, and slowly scan your attention from head to toe. Our Meditation & Mindfulness sessions and Meditation Workshop offer guided support.
When to seek more support
Grounding is a helpful everyday practice, but it is not a substitute for professional care. If stress or anxiety feels overwhelming, please reach out to a qualified professional. For complementary support, see our healing services or book a session.
